Building the future
of aviation intelligence
from Nigeria.

I'm Mohammed Bello Sani - a final-year Aerospace Engineering student at AFIT Kaduna, researcher, and founder of Penelope Inc. I build physics-informed AI systems, blockchain-secured avionics, and full-stack tools - all the way from journal submissions to deployed software.

Beihang M.Sc. Starts

An engineer who codes, researches, and ships - all at once.

I'm in the final year of my Aerospace Engineering degree at the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), Kaduna, Nigeria - graduating with a CGPA of 4.13/5.00. But my undergraduate years look less like a typical student's and more like a research lab's output log.

While completing coursework in Flight Dynamics, Aerospace Structures, and Propulsion, I simultaneously authored four original research papers - all now under peer review at top international journals. I built and deployed production software. I designed a conceptual aircraft. I engineered a blockchain security system for aviation. I published open datasets used by researchers worldwide. And I did most of it independently, from a laptop in Abuja.

"I am not waiting to graduate before doing real engineering. The work is already here."

In September 2026, I begin an M.Sc. in Smart Aviation at Beihang University (BUAA), Hangzhou, China - ranked #1 in China and top-5 globally for aerospace - under Professor Hu Yang at the Smart Aviation Center. My research will focus on digital twin-based intelligent maintenance for aircraft systems.

African aviation needs infrastructure it can call its own.

My SIWES internships - at the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) working on airworthiness compliance, and at Executive Airlift Group maintaining King Air 350 aircraft at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport - gave me something textbooks cannot: a direct view of where African aviation breaks down.

The maintenance tools, the health monitoring systems, the security infrastructure - almost all of it is foreign-built, foreign-licensed, and foreign-maintained. African operators pay enormous sums for systems designed for different contexts and different fleets. I want to change that.

Every system I build - every paper I write - is aimed at that gap. The long-term vision behind Penelope Inc., the company I'm founding, is to become the leading indigenous aerospace AI engineering practice in Africa: building digital maintenance infrastructure that airlines, MROs, and regulators on this continent can actually own.

Four papers. Four journals. All as an undergraduate.

I also serve as an invited peer reviewer for AIAA JAIS - on behalf of Prof. Peng Wei, George Washington University - an honour normally extended to faculty and senior researchers.

Research that runs. Software that ships.

I don't just write about systems. I build them - end to end, from physics simulation to deployed product.
